CHILDREN AT MOUNT ZION

The children at Mount Zion are a very important part of our church. They represent the future and we are in the process of renovating our nursery to reflect this new emphasis. Pictures will be posted as soon as the renovations are complete.

The Children's Sermon:

A portion of each Sunday morning worship service is reserved for the "The Children's Sermon."
Mrs. Elizabeth Finley teaches these lessons to the youngest children after which they are dismissed to attend Children's Church activities or they may remain seated with their parents in the sanctuary.

Upon seeing Mrs. Finley in the grocery store, one of the children exclaimed, "There's the Church Lady!"

On the morning of January 14, 2012, there were eleven children in attendance. The subject of Mrs. Finley's lesson was KINDNESS.

Whenever Elizabeth is unable to teach, our pastor fills in. The picture below was taken during this past Christmas while Pastor Kurt was explaining the legend of the candy cane.

Bringing Children to Church
Submitted by Elizabeth Finley
a.k.a. "The Church Lady"

Many of you have told me that you can relate to the children’s sermons from past church experiences from your childhood. I firmly believe that childhood church experiences are a firm foundation for a Christian life.

Many of my own childhood experiences in church, Sunday school, choir, Bible school, and MYF (Methodist Youth Fellowship), come to mind on a daily basis. It is a wonderful thing that we share our beliefs with the children of our church and make them a part of our church community.

I believe these experiences of closeness and security and the love of Jesus will remain with them throughout life. Thank you for bringing the children to church!

"And they were bringing children to him that he might touch them, and the disciples

rebuked them. But when Jesus saw it, he was indignant and said to them, “Let the
children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.
Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall
not enter it.” And he took them in his arms and blessed them, laying his hands on
them." (Mark 10:13-16 ESV)

Vacation Bible School:

The 2011 Vacation Bible School was a great success! The children learned Recipes for Living from the Old Testament. Elizabeth Bowman, Libby Carson, the McPhersons, Elizabeth Finley, Lois Bomar, Ashley Gelder, and Janet Crenshaw were our church members who taught lessons, and provided and served food, during the five-day joint Vacation Bible School in cooperation with Lawrence Chapel Methodist Church. The average attendance each night was 50 children and 20 adults. A special "Thank You!" goes to the volunteers and the parents for helping with this Christian experience during the summer.
