Welcome to New Members
Connie Norwood and Kathy O'Brien - A warm Mount Zion welcome is extended to our newest members who joined the church on Sunday, January 15, 2012.
Peggy and Henry Bodie -
Charles and Pam Baker - Mount Zion extends a warm welcome to Charles and Pam Baker. Charles graduated from Clemson University in 1974. After working in textiles for 25 years, he now serves as a financial consultant with Strickland & Baker Financial, Inc. in Clemson. He has served on the Foothills YMCA board as well as holding the office of president on the board. Charles has also coached multiple sports at the Y and the Clemson Area Soccer Club. Pam graduated from Western Carolina University and then taught school in North Carolina for 10 years. She is now employed at Clemson Elementary School in the school’s office. The Bakers have two sons, Brian and Sean. Pam is one of the newest members in our choir.
Sonny and Jill Sims - It is really a “welcome back” to Sonny and Jill Sims. Both Sonny and Jill grew up in Central. They attended Mount Zion as children. Jill’s parents, Hal and Bobby Garrett, are long-time members of Mount Zion. Sonny’s parents, Johnny and Sherrill Sims, moved during his senior year at Daniel High School and now reside in Campobello. Even though Sonny and Jill had known each other for some time, they did not date and marry until after college. Their son, Mason, was born while they were living in Charleston. Although Sonny has a degree in Horticulture and has worked as a certified arborist, he now owns his own investment and insurance business, The Sonny Sims Agency, in Seneca. Jill’s degree is in Fashion Merchandising and she is currently an independent sales consultant with Willow House. Mason enjoys playing basketball and golf.
Ron and Eileen Nonnenberg - Ron and Ellen have lived in the upstate for over 20 years, having relocated here from Savannah, GA. Ron is retired after 39 plus years of government service, nine of which involved serving in the U.S. Army. Eileen stays busy operating her business, “Occasions”, from their home. They have three daughters: Celeste, who lives in Savannah, GA; Ruth, a resident of The Woodlands, TX; and Ronni, who lives in Simpsonville, SC. Their seven grandchildren (six boys and one girl) range in age from 5 to 22. Ron and Eileen are very proud of their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. They very much enjoy living in this very special part of Americana, and particularly enjoy Clemson athletic events and spending time with their special friends. They feel very fortunate and truly blessed being a part of Mount Zion United Methodist Church.
Terry and Mary Handegan - Terry and Mary moved to Central six years ago from Hilton Head Island, SC. Both work for RE/Max Foothills. They have four adult children, two sons and two daughters. Their eleven grandchildren range in age from 3-15. Big Clemson fans, Terry and Mary love to garden and play bridge.
Larry and Gail Wingard - Larry and Gail moved to Keowee Key near Salem from Hartsville, SC, a year ago this past May. Larry still works for Sonoco Products in Hartsville. Gail has retired from teaching elementary through high school age children...mostly math. One of their three adult sons, David, is the husband of Allison Miller daughter of Lane and Jan Miller. All three sons are Clemson graduates. Larry and Gail have six grandchildren and are avid tennis players. Gail enjoys signing and is a member of our choir.

Those two grandchildren are Quint and Braelin, children of Al's son Benji and his wife Heather. All of the Cumbies have been known to wear a little orange from time to time!

Member Spotlight
Bill Clayton
Bill has been a member of Mount Zion for 84 years. He was a small child when the current sanctuary was dedicated. Bill calls himself a "Methodist by geography" as he grew up in the white house next door to the church.
Sara Parsons
Sara moved to Central with her parents and has been a member of the church since 1950. She graduated from the building next door to the church when it was Central High School. The friendly people at Mount Zion drew her to the church in 1950 and that is still true today. |
