United Methodist Women

The Mount Zion Unit of the United Methodist Women is extremely proud to announce that Virginia Norwood's article about our Harvest Luncheon last November was published in the February 2012 (Volume 44, No. 2) issue of response magazine.

Response, an award-winning publication, is the official magazine of United Methodist Women. It's goals are to educate for mission, to interpret the Purpose of United Methodist Women and to strengthen the organization. It is published by the Women's Division, General Board of Global Ministries.

Virginia is our unit treasurer and was so moved by the amount of money we were able to contribute to missions that she decided to write an article about it. Originally intended for submission to our district newsletter, it was submitted to response almost as an after-thought.

A slightly modified version of the same article is also going to appear in the South Carolina Advocate. The original article was modified to include some monies that were slow to come in so that the final total reflect the change from "over $500" to "$733".

That's not too shabby for a unit comprised of only 35 members on their first attempt to combat world hunger!

Congratulations Virginia!

Faith, Hope, Love In Action at Mount Zion's Three Circles

Circle 1:  The Dolly Brock Circle

The Dolly Brock Circle meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 2:30 in the afternoon for an hour. We enjoy fellowship, Bible study, worship, and outreach opportunities. We support local, district, state, and global ministries. Joining this group of committed women is a unique opportunity no matter who you are or where in your life you currently are at this moment.

Circle 2:  The Eloise Gaines Circle (the very first Circle at Mount Zion)

Historically the first circle at Mount Zion, the Eloise Gaines Circle meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 in the morning for one hour. The meetings are informal and held at the church in the downstairs meeting room. Currently, there are seven members, three honorary members and four inactive members. Visitors are welcome and we are always looking for those that would like to become members. The focus is on the support of United Methodist Women mission programs and the characterisitcs of biblical fellowship as borrowed from Rick Warren's, The Purpose Driven Life.

Circle 3: The Mattie May Allen Circle

The Mattie May Allen Circle is made up of mostly professional working ladies. The meetings are held from September through May on the first Wednesday of each month. The meetings take place in the homes of the members at 7:00 p.m. They have several meeting "traditions" which include a salad supper in May and a holiday dinner at a restaurant. Often they do not meet in the months that include a joint circle meeting (unit meeting). Some of their projects include: hanging of the greens, decorating the Central Heritage House, adopting Helping Hands Children for the holidays, and participating in Mt. Zion UMW projects and missions. The majority of the teachers in the children's programs at Mt. Zion are members of the Mattie May Allen Circle, so we strongly support and participate in the children's programs and projects. We communicate with one another frequently through e-mail. We are becoming Mt. Zion's first "electronic" circle. If you have any questions, you may contact Vicki Miesbauer through the church office.
